Tony Johnson Receiving the 'DEDICATION TO SPORT AWARD' from Jack Danks head of the Sports Council in 1982.

This was presented at a special dinner with over 150 guests it was the proudest day of Tony's life he beat many national sportsmen to win that award.

Left to right: pusher off Derek Hill, time keeper Howard Saunders, recorder Cliff Harris and RTTC Observer Bob Yearsley.

In those days the sport was much stricter with early morning starts usually 6am and each course had a code number like K48 or K6 or K16 etc, this was to stop crowds gathering. Publicity prior to the event was not allowed in the general press also you could be fined and lose your amateur status if the name or manufacture of your bike could be seen in a press photograph. A friend of Tony Johnson called Albert Southall was banned from racing because he had boxed professionally, later the official body relented and he raced for Walsall Roads, they both went to the isle of Man to ride in the team in 1989 and raced together.
